Help Insurance Refuses to Pay!?

A friend of mine surgery was pre-approved and done last year. Now a lawyer is contacting her with threats to sue for $67,000 for my surgery. Apparently her insurance refuses to pay. After the run around her insurance informed her that the surgery center was not credentialed to perform the surgery therefore they will not pay them Since she signed a financial waiver it is now her responsibility to pay. She cannot believe this is happening. Why would the surgeon perform the surgery somewhere not authorized?! I am trying to gather all the info I can and appeal it. But I have this lawyer breathing down my neck. $67,000 debt will bankrupt us.

Anybody know anything about this???? Any Advice help
I'm asking the question for a friend of mine. It is not for me. Marc Sanders seems to have understood the question perfectly.

Hi Sandy.

The best thing your friend can do is contact a lawyer and try to find out whether or not the hospital was in fact licensed to perform the operation they did. If they were, you should be able to audit the insurance company for the cost of the operation.

You NEED a lawyer for this though. Trying to find out yourself will make for a giant runaround, possibly worse than the one you're in right now, and even then you will still likely lose and will be made bankrupt by these fees.

Look through local businesses for a good health insurance claims lawyer who can give you the guidance and assistance you need to track down information on this and find out who is really responsible and if the insurance company really is liable for the operation. Trying to do this on your own likely means you will fail, so get a good lawyer and you stand a decent chance of saving your friend's financial stability and credit rating!
