There are many types and brands of multi-tools out there but in my honest opinion and after using alot of different ones, there are only 2 main brands (Gerber & Leatherman). My personal preference being the Gerber brand multi-tool! This is mainly due in large to the fact of the way it's designed and made. When engaged/deployed, the handle is designed to be more ergonomic due to the fact that the metal handles are turned with all tools to the inside of the grips until needed. On most Leatherman multi-tools, the tools are to the outside of the grips being that it opens like a butterfly knife. Lately Leatherman has been developing more of their devices to be more ergonomic like the Gerber tools. As for reliability, both Gerber & Leatherman are about equal; tough, strong material design and rugged.
