ok then when ever i try to wirelessly connect page pops up that instead of asking for the passphrase it asks for a username password and logon domain i don't know how to connect because of this

its is basically asking me to enter credentials for conecting

also i have a netgear router
also my new laptop can connect to all of my friends home networks just not mine

it sounds like your new laptop has been told that you're using a domain instead of a private network... you need to run the network set up and depending on if you'r using vista or 7 this is pretty simple. just open the network and sharing center and when you view your active connections tell it t your home network.
also, make sure you're actually connecting to your own router and not a neighbors, this can be the issue as well as about 100 other things....
